Voices from the 2025 Plenary: Living the Present and Focusing on What Truly Matters

At the conclusion of the 2025 UISG Plenary Assembly, we gather in this section the testimonies and reflections of several Superiors General on the key themes that animated our days of listening, discernment, and communion.

Through these weekly interviews, we wish to open a space of listening and communion, where the experience of those who, from diverse contexts, walk the synodal path in service of the Gospel and consecrated life in today’s world can truly resonate.

This week we share the words of Sr. Fátima GODIÑO, Superior General of the Franciscan Missionary Sisters of the Incarnate Word, on the importance of living the present moment, expressing affection, and focusing on what is truly essential, especially in accompanying young people.

"There are two things I find particularly meaningful in this time, especially in working with young people: one is the expression of affection, and the other is the dimension of living in the present moment.

These two could be the titles of two chapters, but I believe they teach us a lot—above all, how to live by sitting in what is essential. Sometimes we are too projected into the future. It is true that today’s culture can sometimes lose sight of salvation and eternal life. Yet I see value in this focus on living the present and centering on what truly matters.

And also, the expression of affection—because one of the things often criticized in religious life is precisely this dimension: the difficulty of being affective. And I especially notice this among young people today."
