Press Release XXIII UISG Plenary Assembly 2025: "Consecrated life: A Hope That Transforms"
Rome, April 29, 2025 - From May 5 to 9, the XXIII UISG Plenary Assembly will be held in attendance at the Hotel Ergife.
As the world mourns the death of our beloved Pope Francis, it seems particularly significant that the Superior Generals, gathered in assembly, reflect on Consecrated Life as a transforming presence of hope in today's world.
On World Mission Day, Feb. 5, 2025, Pope Francis spoke of the importance of being "messengers and builders of hope" for "a new evangelizing season of the Church, sent to revive hope in the world."
Sr. Mary Barron, ola, UISG president, says, "In this Jubilee Year, the Plenary is a unique time of listening, communion and renewal. It is a time to walk together as consecrated women in service to the Church and the world."
Nearly 900 Superior Generals will participate in the 2025 Plenary Assembly.
Participants come from 75 different nationalities: the most represented continent is Europe, where many General Houses are located.
From Africa, the country with the largest number of participants is the Democratic Republic of Congo; from Asia it is India; from North America, the United States; and from Central and South America, it’s Mexico and Brazil. For the first time, we are happy to welcome a large number of Superior Generals from Indonesia.
The theme of the Plenary, "Consecrated Life: A Hope That Transforms" invites women religious to reflect on their mission as a sign of hope and transformation in today's world. Sr. Patricia Murray, ibvm, Executive Secretary of the UISG, recalls the words of Pope Francis, who described hope as "the capacity to discern, everywhere, signs of hope, the breaking through of the possible into the impossible, of grace where it would seem that sin has eroded all trust." In these words, Pope Francis describes both the context and the process of igniting hope.
The Plenary will focus on synodality. The methodology of Conversation in the Spirit will be at the center as a tool for discernment. This approach aims to promote deep listening, shared reflection and global communion among the participants.
The detailed program of Plenary 2025 is available online, for those who are interested.
Since 1965, UISG has provided a meeting place for Superiors General to come together in an ecclesiastical context. Composed of members from around the world, it aims to build bridges and networks in order to create new strategies and synergies that enable women religious to communicate across geographic distances and linguistic and cultural differences, so as to be in communion with one another and to build a global community together
Its members are more than 1,900 Superior Generals whose general houses are distributed in 97 countries around the world.
