Let’s Celebrate Creation Day with the New “Creation Mass”
As UISG has been involved in the global ecumenical process calling for a more intentional celebration of the annual “Feast of Creation” of September 1st (also known as “Creation Day” or “World Day of Prayer for Creation”), we welcome the Vatican’s decree issuing the new formulary of the Missa pro custodia creationis (Mass for the Care of Creation) as an important pastoral resource to support the celebration of the Feast of Creation in September.
In light of this, we encourage you to celebrate Creation Day on September 1st or the following Sunday with the new Mass and share widely in your networks the resource "Ideas to celebrate Creation Day" - www.bit.ly/creation-day-mass-ideas.
We are also grateful that over 1,000 Catholic organizations, including religious institutes, associations, and lay movements, have endorsed the proposal to elevate this feast to become the “Feast of Creation in Christ” in the liturgical calendar. Bishops are also active in the process, with 30 episcopal conferences having endorsed the proposal. We invite superiors general of institutes who have not done so to consider joining as well. Details about the proposal and how to sign the joint letter are available here: www.bit.ly/memo-feast.
This is a significant moment as we celebrate this year: 10 years of Laudato Si’, 800 years of the Canticle of the Creatures, and 1700 years of the ecumenical council of Nicaea.
