Sowing Hope for the Planet

Sowing Hope for the Planet

The campaign “Sowing Hope for the Planet” was initiated by the UISG Board in 2018. The campaign focuses on Pope Francis’ Encyclical Laudato Si’ so that religious "become painfully aware” of the needs of the Earth and its people “and  “discover what each of us can do about it."

IDENTITY

In order to promote this initiative, a variety of interactive and informative opportunities have been developed to support advocacy efforts and facilitate networking among religious congregations and their collaborators and networks.

MISSION

Since the start of the UISG project, the Vatican Dicastery for the Promotion of Integral Human Development has developed the Laudato Si’ Action Platform (LSAP) which suggests a variety of actions in response to Laudato Si’.

Seven Goals have been articulated in relation to:

1) the Cry of the Earth,

2) the Cry of the Poor,

3) Ecological Economics,

4) Simple Lifestyles,

5) Ecological Education,

6) Ecological Spirituality, and

7) Community Resilience and Empowerment.

Because of the experience within the Campaign, UISG have been asked to exercise leadership in the religious sector of Laudato Si Action Platform. We continue to offer guidance to those undertaking reflection and action from a theological and spiritual perspective in response to Laudato Si’.

The vision statement affirmed by the 2019 Plenary Assembly of the UISG guides us in this work.

We commit ourselves to both personal and communal conversion and we wish to move forward together in an orchestrated and coordinated response in Listening to the cry of the Earth and the cry of the Poor as we go forth as instruments of hope in the heart of the world.
