UISG-USG COMMISSION FOR CARE AND PROTECTION

Our Commission aims to promote a culture of care and safeguarding within congregations through ongoing formation of Superiors General/Congregational Leaders and their delegates and through the development and adoption of policy documents and the implementation of procedures so that communities, institutions and projects are safe places for all.

IDENTITY

After the meeting of Presidents of Bishops’ Conferences and representatives of the UISG and USG that was held in the Vatican in February 2019, a number of stakeholders in the area of safeguarding were invited to reflect on the specific needs of Congregational Leaders.

As a result our Commission was established in 2020 to act as a place of reference and formation for Superiors General, General Councillors, and those responsible for safeguarding in their Institutes.

MISSION

Our mission is to serve men and women in congregational leadership and to provide education and training in the area of safeguarding.

We focus on the many aspects of abuse which can occur including sexual, spiritual and psychological abuse.
