Voices from the Plenary 2025: Consecrated life, a grace for the Church and for the world
At the conclusion of the 2025 UISG Plenary Assembly, we gather in this section the testimonies and reflections of several Superiors General on the key themes that animated our days of listening, discernment, and communion.
Through these weekly interviews, we wish to open a space of listening and communion, where the experience of those who, from diverse contexts, walk the synodal path in service of the Gospel and consecrated life in today’s world can truly resonate.
This week, we share the words of Sr. Lilian Kapongo, Superior General of the Sisters of the Immaculate Conception of Ouagadougou, on the value of consecrated life today.
"Consecrated life has always been a grace for the Church and for the world.
It leads to the knowledge of Jesus and to the sanctification of the Church through people who have consecrated themselves to God to share the very life that Christ lived: a life of chastity, poverty, obedience, and a life of charity through the actions that religious men and women carry out in the world.
We know that our world is facing many difficulties in terms of faith. Therefore, religious life remains a constant call to return to Christ, to refocus on Him, who is the heart of our existence, the engine of our activities, and the source of all holiness.
Consecrated life remains a precious gift for the Church, for its holiness and for its mission. Consecrated people dedicate themselves in all areas to help humanity grow, to know Jesus, to deepen love for one's neighbor, and thus walk towards the holiness that Christ has offered to every person who comes into this world to believe in Him and to serve their brothers and sisters.
Consecrated life always immerses us in the radicality of Christ, the radicality of the Gospel, which gives us the strength to give ourselves daily in service to our poor, sick, lonely brothers and sisters, and to those who need our closeness to rediscover the joy of living and the path of hope.
The theme of the jubilee year is hope. Therefore, religious life is here to remind each person that they are a gift to God, that they are loved by God, and that God is the Father of all. We are all called to walk together in love and fraternity."
