Voices from the Plenary 2025: The Silent Power of Consecrated Life
At the conclusion of the 2025 UISG Plenary Assembly, we gather in this section the testimonies and reflections of several Superiors General on the key themes that animated our days of listening, discernment, and communion.
Through these weekly interviews, we wish to open a space of listening and communion, where the experience of those who, from diverse contexts, walk the synodal path in service of the Gospel and consecrated life in today’s world can truly resonate.
This week, we share the words of Sr. Lilian Kapongo, Superior General of the Missionary Carmelite Sisters of St. Teresa of the Child Jesus, on the consecrated life.
"The power of consecrated life does not lie in waging war or in being powerful, but in this humble life, sometimes hidden, fragile. Indeed, it makes others lay down their arms.
The power of love, the power of self-giving, is truly the hope that brings light.
In this sense, consecrated life continues to be a sign of hope, not because it is powerful in the human sense of weapons or noise, but in humility, in love, in total self-giving, and in closeness. Living for others."
