Voices from the 2025 Plenary: "To be the hospitable heart of God in the world"
At the conclusion of the 2025 UISG Plenary Assembly, we gather in this section the testimonies and reflections of several Superiors General on the key themes that animated our days of listening, discernment, and communion.
Through these weekly interviews, we wish to open a space of listening and communion, where the experience of those who, from diverse contexts, walk the synodal path in service of the Gospel and consecrated life in today’s world can truly resonate.
This week we share the words of Sr. Idilia Maria Moreira, Superior General of the Hospital Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, on the meaning of consecrated life today and on the challenge of continuing to be the hospitable heart of God in the world.
"The challenges that consecrated life faces in the world today are the same as ever.
Consecrated life is this expression of the heart of God in the world, with a great diversity of charisms, seeking to listen to the voice of the people and to be a presence that springs from the heart of God.
In the diversity of charisms, we are also a voice of that God who listens and who wishes to respond to His people.
For this reason, I believe that today the great challenge, perhaps — if we wish to express it more forcefully — is to continue being that hospitable heart of God in a world that cries out and suffers; through closeness, through listening, by being beside the poor and those most in need; and being often a presence that is near, attentive, and above all, one that defends life and accompanies those who are most vulnerable — bringing them also the message of a God who is near, a God who is present, a God who is heart, and who is hospitality".
