The UISG is joining the Global Education Pact initiative with a new action guide

At a time marked by profound social change and educational challenges, the International Union of Superiors General (UISG) is joining the Global Education Pact initiative, promoted by the universal Church, through the launch of a new booklet that offers practical ways to implement it in various educational contexts.

On 27 October 2025, to mark the publication of Pope Leo XIV’s Apostolic Letter, Charting New Maps of Hope, we were offered “a true compass for our times”: a vision of education that “unites, uplifts and transforms, placing human dignity, fraternity and care for our common home at the heart of every pedagogical approach”.

This new resource, the result of collaboration with the International Office for Catholic Education (OIEC) and consultation with various church and educational stakeholders, brings together suggested activities, practical approaches and possible ways to help schools and educational communities put the objectives of the Pact into practice in their local contexts.

As Hervé Lecomte, Secretary General of the OIEC, emphasises, this handbook “is neither a one-size-fits-all model nor a prescriptive framework”, but rather a source of inspiration and a springboard for educational and pastoral creativity, whilst respecting the richness of each context, culture and community.

Within religious life, the initiative is part of a profoundly synodal journey. Sr Priscilla Latela, Chair of the Education Commission of the Union of Superiors General, recalls that the Global Education Pact is “a prophetic invitation calling us to walk together, forge alliances and build a ‘we’ capable of offering a future marked by greater fraternity and solidarity”.

In this outlook, religious congregations, working in partnership with the Dicastery for Culture and Education and in dialogue with the laity and a wide range of institutions, renew their commitment to promoting a holistic education that places the person at the centre, particularly in marginalised communities.

The guide encourages us to take action, fostering a sense of shared responsibility, creativity and hope. As the Apostolic Letter reminds us, we are called to “put aside rivalries and come together, for unity is our prophetic strength”, learning to collaborate and work ever more closely in a shared mission.

This resource aims, with humility and determination, to uphold the conviction that education is an act of hope, an act of trust in humanity and an act of peace, strengthening the great global family of Catholic education in its mission to nurture builders of fraternity.
