Praying for the victims of the shipwreck off Calabria
Praying for the victims of the shipwreck off Calabria
Much has been said and written these days about what has happened off the coast of Calabria. It immediately brings us back to what happens in the waters of the Mediterranean and other migratory routes.
Causes are discussed, reasons are explained, images are shown looking for culprits or exonerating responsibilities. From our vulnerability, not as women, but as human beings, we want to embrace the fragility of all the victims and their families. Welcoming and accompanying them.
In the face of what has happened, the question arises: Why do human beings often seek the remedy to what has happened and do not use their intelligence to prevent it?
There are solutions that only require creativity, courage and the will to build the common good. Creativity to create those safe channels of migration where people are protected and not borders. Courage to put them into practice and the will to build the common good in order to start acting on the premise that there is only one earth and only one race lives on it: the human race.
The good of some means the good of all. But the greed of some is the death of all.
