UISG International Migration Project
UISG International Migration Project 2022-2024
After three years of efforts to establish an international network connecting congregations working in the field of migration, the UISG International Migration Project enters the second phase of its engagement aiming to respond to the new challenges of migration in the 21st century.
There were 89 million forcibly displaced people at the end 2021.
A number that will increase with the displaced people from the war in Ukraine. (UNHCR)
Given the magnitude of this migratory phenomenon, after providing a concrete response in Sicily, we are aware that in other parts of our world people are suffering the consequences of war and climate changes that forced many people out of their homes.
UISG would like to create an office that will seek to raise reflections, prayer and answers to the question: What can we do to respond to it?
The International Migration project aims to reach the people in their own reality of migration, setting up the channels of networking and support:
- To create a network of support for religious congregations working in this field and encouraging those congregations who would like to join this ministry.
- To develop reflection processes on the phenomenon of migration and to explore the implications for formation and mission within religious congregations.
- To develop a spirituality that allows us to be converted by the migrants, refugees, asylum seekers, displaced people.

As a member of Strangers No Longer, a parish based effort to support refugees and immigrants in Michigan, I am interested in learning more about world-wide displacement of peoples. I doubt that I have much to contribute practically speaking but may be able to enhance consciousness of the reality locally.

Buenas tardes.
