Voices from the 2025 Plenary: "Religious life has a future, because its future is the Risen Christ"

At the conclusion of the 2025 UISG Plenary Assembly, we gather in this section the testimonies and reflections of several Superiors General on the key themes that animated our days of listening, discernment, and communion.

Through these weekly interviews, we wish to open a space of listening and communion, where the experience of those who, from diverse contexts, walk the synodal path in service of the Gospel and consecrated life in today’s world can truly resonate.

This week we share the words of Sr. Martha Gabriela Hernández, Superior General of the Claretian Missionary Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament, on the future of religious life from the perspective of hope, joy, and trust in the Risen Christ.

"Religious life certainly has a future, because the future of religious life is the same Risen Jesus of yesterday, today, and forever. And we follow Christ. He is our center, our reason for being, the one we want everyone to know and love, so that they may be truly happy and fulfilled in this life.

At the moment we listened to Simona Brambilla, I was astonished, I was amazed, because she spoke from a lived experience. She spoke to us about seeds—those simple, gentle, humble seeds—that are buried and have borne beautiful fruits, even to the point of martyrdom for Christ.

So, religious life lived in joy—which is so often lacking in the world—and in trust, like our foundress, Blessed Mother Marinés: trust and more trust. If we live in trust, we know and sense that there are many signs of a new springtime. Something new is being born, because Christ is always new.

So, I invite everyone to be joyful and to spread joy and hope, as consecrated life desires to do".
