A Vatican Appointment That Marks a Step Forward for Women Religious

On May 22, 2025, Pope Leo XIV appointed Sister Tiziana Merletti, SFP, Secretary of the Dicastery for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life. The UISG congratulates her and warmly welcomes this appointment with deep gratitude and hope, as it represents an important recognition of the role of women in the Church and in consecrated life.

Originally from Pineto (Italy), Sister Tiziana is a religious woman with solid formation and extensive experience. Former Superior General of the Franciscan Sisters of the Poor, she holds a degree in Civil Law and a Doctorate in Canon Law. She currently teaches at the Pontifical Antonianum University.

In recent years, Sister Tiziana has actively collaborated with the UISG, generously offering her expertise as a member of the UISG Council for Canon Law and the UISG–USG Commission for Safeguarding. Her commitment has helped strengthen integrity, justice, and care within consecrated life.

This appointment, beyond recognizing her personal value, sends an encouraging message to all consecrated women, who are daily committed to serving the Gospel and the universal Church.

The UISG assures Sister Tiziana of its support and prayers in this new role, confident that her contribution will continue to bear fruit for the good of consecrated life worldwide.
