The Mission: A Matter of Love

Today more than ever, the Christian mission reveals its deepest essence: it is a matter of love. The reflections gathered in this issue stem from the concrete experiences of consecrated men and women, immersed in the challenges of the contemporary world, and are united by a common thread found in the insight shared by recent Church teaching: the love of Christ is the source, the form, and the goal of every authentic mission.

Missionary experience clearly shows that proclaiming the Gospel is not primarily about conveying information, but about bearing witness to an encounter that transforms lives. Mission thus becomes a living participation in God’s love for humanity, especially for the poor and the forgotten.

In a world marked by crises, migration, violence, and deep inequalities, consecrated life is called to reexamine itself from a prophetic perspective. The image of the “Women of the Dawn” and Jacob’s dream offer powerful symbols for understanding a presence that is not based on security, but on the shared vulnerability and hope of peoples. It is precisely “in the dead of night” that we find the space to recognize God’s presence and renew our trust in life.
