The John Paul II Institute offers, through its Doctorate, Licentiate and one-year Diploma programmes in Sciences of Marriage and Family, a formation spanning economics, law and psychology of the family, brought into dialogue with theology and the Christian anthropological vision.

The programme is open to anyone holding at least a bachelor's degree and is especially suited to sisters, educators, teachers and professionals engaged in family counselling and pastoral care, even without a theological background.

The Licentiate also offers an International Track: during the second year, students can take courses at the Institute's sections abroad, located in various parts of the world, and it welcomes students from around the globe every year — currently 55 nationalities — among laypeople, sisters and priests who choose Rome to train on one of the Church's most pressing challenges today: accompanying families and developing forms of pastoral care that are inculturated in local churches.

The Doctorate, in turn, brings together doctoral candidates in sciences and in theology within a single shared research path, fostering specialization and transdisciplinary formation for those who wish to dedicate themselves, at the highest academic level, to the study and teaching of family realities.

The one-year Diploma allows those with a basic formation, or who cannot undertake a longer programme, to acquire specific competencies on family life. It applies across many fields, especially pastoral, educational and social ones — family counselling centres, diocesan institutions, parish communities — and is also designed for doctors, cultural mediators and legal professionals who encounter the complexity of family stories in their work.
