6th World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly 2026 "But I will never forget you" (Isaiah 49:15)

On the occasion of the 6th World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly, Pope Leo XIV offers the Church a profound reflection on God's closeness, reminding us that He never forgets anyone. Beginning with the words of the prophet Isaiah—"But I will never forget you"—the Holy Father recalls that every person is held in God's loving care, even when loneliness, frailty, or old age give rise to the fear of being forgotten.

At a time when many older people experience isolation and the loss of meaningful relationships, the Pope invites Christian communities to rediscover the value of closeness, care, and encounter. This World Day thus becomes an opportunity to recognize older persons not only as the living memory of the Church, but as women and men who continue to have a vocation, a mission, and gifts to offer the People of God.

The message is also an invitation to allow ourselves to be transformed by God's tenderness, which enables us to build relationships capable of overcoming indifference and abandonment. Visiting an elderly person, listening to their story, sharing time and prayer become tangible signs of a Church that desires to make visible, through its life, the Lord's promise: "But I will never forget you."
