The synodal journey launched by UISG and USG, together with the Good Shepherd International Foundation (GSIF) and a multi-congregational Steering Committee, continues around a decisive question: how to ensure the sustainability of mission today.
Following the first workshop on December 9, 2025, which offered a space for shared listening regarding the transformations taking place in the ecclesial and philanthropic landscape, the second meeting seeks to take a further step: moving from discernment to action.
The April 9, 2026 workshop, entitled Discern Together for a Renewed Mission: From Discernment to Action, will focus on a theme that is often decisive — yet sometimes underestimated — for mission sustainability: planning.
The day will provide space for work and dialogue to explore:
- what truly makes planning effective, beyond documents and formal processes;
- how planning can become a concrete lever for mission sustainability, strengthening coherence between apostolic vision, structures, and resources;
- which organizational models and support configurations can help congregations today operate in a more collaborative, accountable, and synodal manner.
Participants will be invited to revisit sustainability as an integrated reality that includes clarity of apostolic vision, leadership, organizational capacity, governance, and concrete tools to accompany ministries over time.
This second workshop is part of a broader three-step journey:
- December 2025 – listening and reading the signs of the times;
- April 2026 – planning, structures, and organizational choices to move into action;
- Second half of 2026 – exploring how to reduce long-term dependence on grants and strengthen mission resilience, examining pathways such as asset management, blended finance, and impact investment.
Online participation will be available; however, in-person attendance is strongly recommended in order to foster the quality of dialogue and discernment that this process requires.
Participation is by registration, and places are limited. Early registration is recommended, according to the procedures communicated by the organizers.
