Requesting an autobiography from those making formal application to a religious congregation has been a common practice for years. Likewise, when making application to a sabbatical program, thirty-day retreat, ongoing formation program or spiritual direction program, an autobiography is often requested. What if the autobiography became a tool for discernment, rather than simply a document submitted, read, and then filed away never referred to again? The Autobiography: Discernment Tool “Par Excellence”! will explore how an autobiography can be used to assist those discerning a next step in life.
