Jubilee of Consecrated Life: asking, seeking, knocking — living hope
The day began with a Eucharistic celebration presided over by Pope Leo XIV. In his homily, the Holy Father reflected on the three verbs of prayer from the Gospel of Luke: ask, seek, and knock. He presented them as icons of the evangelical counsels, with asking in poverty, seeking in obedience, and knocking to bring Christ’s charity to others. He invited consecrated men and women to remember their vocation and recall what the Lord has done to multiply their talents, deepen their faith, and make their charity more generous. As living witnesses to the primacy of God, they are called to spread the oxygen of His love, a love that is concrete, faithful, and enduring.
In the afternoon, the Jubilee came alive with dedicated gatherings for each form of consecrated life, held in various locations across Rome. Religious Institutes met in the Paul VI Hall, while members of the Ordo Virginum gathered in the New Synod Hall. Secular Institutes convened at the University of the Holy Cross, and new forms of consecrated life assembled at the Jesuit General Curia. Contemplative Institutes met at the Urbaniana University, and Societies of Apostolic Life gathered at the UISG headquarters.
Most groups began with joyful moments of welcome, featuring music, dance, and video presentations. Others followed their welcome with times of reflection and shared experiences. The second part of each gathering included extended spiritual conversations, following the synodal method and centered on the theme of hope lived in everyday life.
In the evening, from 7 to 9 p.m., consecrated persons engaged with the city. Three public squares were transformed into spaces of dialogue. These geographic locations represented three dimensions of human existence: fraternity that breaks down walls, listening that restores dignity, and care that mends the fabric of creation.
Piazza Vittorio Emanuele hosted the theme of universal fraternity. Accompanied by the music of the Babel Nova Orchestra, participants sought to weave a grammar of encounter that transcends differences, recognizing in the other not a stranger but a brother or sister.
Piazza dei Mirti, featuring Kantiere Kairòs, gave voice to the theme of listening to the marginalized. The event focused on those who live on the peripheries of collective attention, to whom consecrated life seeks to give voice and dignity.
Piazza Don Bosco focused on care for creation, with reflections accompanied by the Sonia Nifosi Studio. The central topics were the wounded earth, the cry of an environment that has long demanded attention, and the need for a new paradigm of relationship with nature. The focus shifted from dominance to stewardship and from exploitation to reciprocity.
It was a day rich with encounter, sharing, reflection, and witness. This day transformed consecrated life into a seed of hope and the oxygen of God’s love, of which they are living witnesses.
