Conclusione di un mandato: riflessioni e gratitudine di Sr Pat Murray

 

 

Concludendo il suo servizio come Segretaria Esecutiva dell'UISG, suor Pat Murray ibvm riflette su oltre undici anni dedicati al sostegno e all'accompagnamento della vita consacrata. In questo messaggio, esprime la sua gratitudine per i numerosi leader, collaboratori e partner incontrati lungo il cammino, e mette in evidenza alcune delle tappe fondamentali che hanno segnato questo periodo di crescita e trasformazione per l'UISG.

 

 

È stato per me un grande privilegio e una grande gioia aver servito la vita consacrata come Segretaria Esecutiva dell'UISG per oltre undici anni. Durante questo tempo, ho incontrato tante superiore generali e leader congregazionali, sia alle assemblee e riunioni, sia di persona che online. Sono profondamente grata a tutte voi per la vostra straordinaria leadership e per il vostro sostegno all'UISG.

In modo particolare, ringrazio coloro che hanno fatto parte del Consiglio Direttivo dell'UISG o che hanno servito come delegate rappresentando le sue 36 costellazioni. Un ringraziamento speciale va alle Presidenti: suor Carmel Sammut msola, suor Jolanta Kafka cms, suor Nadia Coppa asc e suor Mary Barron ola, con le quali ho collaborato da vicino e che sono state un sostegno meraviglioso.

 


Questo decennio è stato un tempo di cambiamento e trasformazione e, sebbene non siano mancati sfide e contesti difficili, c’è molto da celebrare. Come donne consacrate, abbiamo dovuto affrontare anche la nostra vulnerabilità e fragilità. Questa esperienza ci ha collocate, in modo molto profondo, accanto alle donne e agli uomini del nostro tempo.

 

Tra i momenti significativi di questi anni, ricordo gli interventi di Papa Francesco alle Assemblee UISG e durante l’Anno della Vita Consacrata, quando ci ha sfidato a svegliare il mondo e a uscire dai nostri luoghi sicuri per andare verso le periferie, sia geografiche che esistenziali.

L’UISG ha risposto istituendo, durante il suo Anno Giubilare nel 2015, un’iniziativa intercongregazionale in Sicilia per accompagnare migranti e rifugiati e costruire ponti tra le popolazioni locali e coloro che arrivano in Europa.

Nello stesso spirito, l’UISG ha rafforzato il suo impegno contro la tratta e lo sfruttamento attraverso la rete Talitha Kum. Papa Francesco ha definito la tratta “una piaga” e “una gravissima violazione dei diritti umani fondamentali”. Talitha Kum è cresciuta fino a contare oggi 64 reti presenti in 108 paesi, coinvolgendo circa 840 congregazioni religiose.

Un’altra tappa fondamentale è stata il lancio di Sowing Hope for the Planet nel 2019, che ha ampliato l’impegno delle suore nella cura del creato. Molte sorelle oggi sono animatrici Laudato Si’ e condividono risorse, piani e iniziative pratiche sul sito del progetto.
Un’altra iniziativa è Catholic Care for Children International che lavora con congregazioni in diversi paesi per ridurre la dipendenza dall’assistenza istituzionale e garantire che ogni bambino cresca in un ambiente familiare sicuro e accogliente.


Nel corso degli anni, si è registrata un’ampia espansione dei programmi di formazione per superiore generali, membri dei consigli generali e membri delle congregazioni. Gli incontri si svolgono a Roma, in altri centri del mondo e sempre più online, grazie alla maggiore capacità tecnologica. Questi incontri hanno rafforzato il senso di sorellanza globale, unite nel rispondere ai bisogni contemporanei e nel sostenersi a vicenda nei momenti difficili. Molti temi sono stati affrontati, con particolare attenzione alla formazione alla leadership, all’interculturalità, alla spiritualità e alla sinodalità.


Il programma annuale per la formazione delle formatrici, giunto al suo settimo anno, è stato molto apprezzato. Ogni anno, circa 45 suore partecipano, intraprendendo un cammino di trasformazione interiore, guidate da diversi relatori, mentori e direttori, e intrecciano legami di amicizia.


Queste iniziative non sarebbero possibili senza la dedizione e i talenti del personale dell’UISG: suore religiose, laiche e laici. Alcuni guidano queste iniziative, altri forniscono supporto segretariale, finanziario, amministrativo, comunicativo e tecnico.


Concludendo, desidero ringraziarvi, membri dell’UISG, per la vostra partecipazione, il vostro sostegno e incoraggiamento in questi undici anni. Voglio anche esprimere gratitudine a coloro che collaborano con l’UISG: il personale dei dicasteri vaticani, le organizzazioni e fondazioni cattoliche internazionali, le ambasciate presso la Santa Sede, le università, e le tante persone che seguono l’UISG tramite i social media.

So che l’UISG continuerà a crescere sotto la guida del nuovo Consiglio Direttivo e della nuova Segretaria Esecutiva, suor Roxanne Schares.

 


Papa Leone XIV ci incoraggia “a essere missionari, aprendo le braccia al mondo e proclamando l’amore di Dio”. Ci ricorda l’importanza dell’unità, del dialogo e della carità, esortandoci a costruire ponti e a essere lievito di armonia per l’umanità. Che l’UISG continui a sostenere la vita consacrata in questo cammino, e preghiamo gli uni per gli altri.

Dear Pat, a huge thank you and embrace to your for your generous and committed ministry as Executive Secretary to UISG for these eleven years and more! It was my privilege and delight to meet you last May in Rome at the meetings of leaders. I had heard of you and saw you at the different zoom meetings and presentations and was very impressed with your leadership. Of course I know how you so care-fully and attentively helped Elizabeth during the Synod and especially in her last illness.
