The webinar will be led by Fr. Barry O'Sullivan and will offer an in-depth reflection on safeguarding within the context of the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

Drawing from pastoral experience, sacramental theology, and recent reflections on safeguarding in the Church, the session will explore the challenges that arise when the sacrament of confession intersects with situations of abuse. Particular attention will be given to listening to victims and survivors, pastoral responsibility, and the role of the confessor.

The webinar will also address the delicate balance between the sacramental seal and the Church’s commitment to promoting safe environments, offering insights into the canonical, pastoral, and formational implications for those engaged in ministries of accompaniment, discernment, and pastoral care.

Participants will also be offered a space for reflection and shared dialogue on a topic that is both highly sensitive and central to the Church’s ongoing journey of responsibility, prevention, and renewal.
