Transmitting Faith in a Changing Era: A New Document from the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith

At a time when points of reference, relationships and ways of communicating are changing, families, communities and younger generations are also facing new ways of living and transmitting the faith. How can we proclaim the Gospel today in a world undergoing profound transformations? How can we make an authentic encounter with Christ possible?

These are the questions addressed by the document “Venite ad me. Considerations on the Transmission of Faith in a Changing Era”, published on 22 October 2026 by the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith. The document invites reflection on one of the most significant challenges facing the Church today.

Through eight chapters, the document begins with the heart of the Christian proclamation — the love of the Father revealed in Jesus Christ — and explores the challenges of transmitting the faith in a context marked by profound cultural changes, secularisation and the widespread use of digital technologies.

Particular attention is given to the family, the first place where faith is transmitted, and to the role of the ecclesial community. The text also explores the centrality of the kerygma, the language of proclamation, Christian formation, and the value of liturgy, witness, art and beauty.

Transmitting the faith means more than simply communicating knowledge or teachings. It means fostering an encounter capable of touching people's lives, awakening their freedom and allowing the joy of the Gospel to shine forth. The testimonies included in the document show how such an encounter can bring about a genuine transformation in people's lives.

For consecrated life, this reflection offers an opportunity to consider how religious communities can continue to be places of encounter, witness and transmission of faith. How can we communicate the Gospel to younger generations while remaining faithful to our charism and open to the languages and challenges of our time?

This document is worth reading not only to understand the challenges of our time, but above all to rediscover how faith can continue to foster encounter, closeness and hope.
