Sisters of the Destitute Celebrate 100 Years of Compassionate Service
The Sisters of the Destitute (SD) are celebrating the Centenary of their foundation (March 1927 – March 2027), marking a century of dedication to the poor, the abandoned and the marginalized.
Founded in 1927 by Venerable Father Varghese Payapilly, the Congregation has sought to make the compassionate love of Christ visible through its mission and service.
Guided by the spirit of gratitude for the past, compassion in the present and renewed commitment to the future, the sisters are commemorating this anniversary through prayer, reflection and spiritual renewal, honouring the generations who have carried forward their founding charism.
The celebrations will conclude on 19 March 2027, with a gathering of the Congregation in thanksgiving for its journey.
The UISG warmly invites all to accompany the Sisters of the Destitute in prayer during this special year.
May this Centenary deepen their fidelity to their charism and inspire them to continue responding with hope and courage to the needs of the most vulnerable.
United in prayer, we give thanks for 100 years of faithfulness, compassion and service.
