Formation Course on Discernment

Formation Course on Discernment

From 4 to 8 December 2026, the residential course in Italian entitled “Desiring, Distinguishing, Deciding: Discernment in Practical Life” will take place in Florence, organized by the Ignatian Spirituality Center (CIS) of the Euro-Mediterranean Province of the Society of Jesus.

Course Information

  • Title: Desiring, Distinguishing, Deciding: Discernment in Practical Life
  • Dates: 4–8 December 2026
  • Format: Residential
  • Location: Florence, Italy
  • Language: Italian
  • Participants: women and men religious, lay women and men engaged in formation, pastoral, and ecclesial ministry

The course was created to offer a formative space dedicated to the practice of personal, communal, and ecclesial discernment in the light of the Ignatian tradition and the synodal journey of the Church. The program is inspired by the four Universal Apostolic Preferences (UAPs) for the decade 2019–2029, with particular attention to the call to “show the way to God through the Spiritual Exercises and discernment.”

In the current context, marked by the Church’s call to walk together in hope, discernment is taking on an increasingly central role in ecclesial and missionary life. Pope Leo XIV has emphasized the importance of accompanying ecclesial communities in discerning the paths to follow, while the Superior General of the Jesuits, Fr. Arturo Sosa, recalls the need to seek the best way to serve the Church and today’s world.

In this perspective, CIS Tuscany offers the course as a concrete opportunity for human, spiritual, and synodal growth, open to religious and lay people who wish to deepen discernment as a way of life, relationship, and mission.
