Book Presentation: Telling Hope. Disarming Words to Build the Future

Book Presentation: Telling Hope. Disarming Words to Build the Future

On Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at 5:30 PM, in Room CS1 of the Faculty of Social Communication Sciences (FSC), the book Telling Hope. Disarming Words to Build the Future (LAS, 2025), edited by Cosimo Alvati and Teresa Doni, will be presented.

The book was conceived as a response to Pope Francis’ message for the World Day of Social Communications, which invites us to tell stories of hope even within the complexity of daily news. It is a powerful appeal to overcome indifference, give voice to the invisible, and promote authentic and compassionate communication.

The volume brings together thirteen contributions from FSC faculty members who, through different approaches – from theology to sociology, from communication to pedagogy – reflect on the value of words as instruments of peace. The aim is to “disarm” contemporary communication, which is too often marked by aggressive tones, polarization, and falsehoods.

The event will feature the editors and two of the authors: Maurizio Di Schino, who will explore the themes of slow journalism and new communication paradigms, and Fabio Pasqualetti, who will speak on technology as an expression of human hope. The discussion will be moderated by Paolo Restuccia. Other authors will be present in the room and will take part in the dialogue.

Among the topics addressed in the book: peace journalism, education in gentleness, communication in the age of hate speech, soft advertising, Christian metal as a sound of hope, and poetic approaches to audiovisual storytelling. A true mosaic of experiences and reflections that seeks to promote a more human and life-giving form of communication.
