Interreligious Prayer Vigil Journeying in Dignity: Listen, Dream, Act

An Interreligious Prayer Vigil "Journeying in Dignity: Listen, Dream, Act" was held yesterday afternoon at the Basilica of Santa Maria in Trastevere in Rome ahead of the International Day of Prayer and Reflection against Human Trafficking to be held on Feb. 8, 2024.

"The interfaith prayer of this year's International Day of Prayer and Reflection against Human Trafficking is an invitation to integrate the path for dignity centered on the five elements of nature. [...] For this year's Prayer Vigil, we are invited to listen, dream and act to walk for dignity alongside each person. We know that everything is interconnected and that the exploitation of people cannot be addressed without a respectful relationship with all of creation. Therefore, we invite you to reflect on the reality of trafficking in persons and the five elements [...]," with those words Sr. Abby Avelino, MM, Coordinator of the International Day of Prayer and Reflection against Human Trafficking and International Coordinator of Talitha Kum, opened the vigil.

The protagonists of the vigil were the many young representatives of the Day's partner organizations who, in a church filled with worshippers, superior generals, sisters from different congregations and representatives of various institutions, led the moment of prayer and reflection.

The young people, who since Saturday, Feb. 3, have been taking part in a series of activities and initiatives designed to explore the issue of trafficking and its evolution in recent years, also organized a flash mob in front of the church where the vigil was held with the aim of raising the level of knowledge and awareness of the phenomenon and inviting other young people like them to be active participants in the fight against trafficking.

The International Union of Superiors General (UISG) and the Union of Superiors General (USG), promoters of the International Day of Prayer and Reflection against Human Trafficking, thank Talitha Kum for coordination and the many partners for their commitment.
