JUNE 29, 1971 - FIRST VATICAN CONSULTATION
UISG developed from being a group focused only on the issues concerning women religious to being one with influence at the level of the universal Church. The request by the Vatican that UISG be involved in the shaping of church documents concerning religious life was the single most important factor in this development.

The UISG was asked for a critique of an early document, Sequela Christi, which seemed premature and inadequate from their perspective. Little was said regarding the fate of this document, but it disappeared. A later and entirely new document, Evangelica Testificatio, developed out of the consultation process.

Consultation of an ongoing nature developed between UISG, USG and SCRIS and many topics have been explored through groups such as the Council of 16 and the Council of 18. The UISG was also invited to be present at the Symnods of Bishops in 19971 and 1974.
