JUNE 8,1967 - UISG STATUTES WERE APPROVED
The Statutes approved by SCR in 1967 consisted of forty articles using clear and precise langauge and provided for a Union as perceived by the dicastery at the close of Vatican Council II. From the outset, UISG was envisioned as international and functional. These statutes envisioned the membership being superiors general of apostolic institutes and set up a secretariat in Rome.

The stated purpose of UISG was to enable superiors general to pool their experiences, to study the contemporary challenges of religious life and to encourage collaboration in projects of interest.

The means of fulfilling these purposes was to be through a general assembly of delegates, a general council which included a president, a permanent secretariat and special commissions as needed.

It is worth noting that the assumptions which governed the creation of these statues were already outdated and the Statutes were showing the need to change by 1970. The ongoing process of ammending the Statutes and the respective roles of CICLSAL and UISG reflect the growth and change of these organizations and of religious life.
