The first General Assembly of the UISG was held in Rome and was attended by over 300 members. At that time, members of general councils were welcome to attend in addition to the superiors general. The meeting was chaired by the prefect of the Sacred Congregation for Religious (SCR) and the first president chosen by the Assembly and approved by the Vatican was Sr.Maria Rosario Araño, RJM.
