2001 UISG PLENARY MEETING

The last Plenary Meeting, held in 2001 produced a powerful Declaration which was widely publicized and which has characterized many of the activities of UISG since.

The theme of the last Plenary Meeting was "Many Cultures - One Heart, Women Religious: Sent to be a Living Presence of the Tenderness and Compassion of God in our Wounded World." Sr. Rita Burley described the meeting in the Special issue of the UISG Bulletin, #116:

"The meeting was a celebration of feminine apostolic religious life at the beginning of the third millenium. We prayed, listened, shared, suffered and rejoiced with each other. We thanked God for our unity in diversity, for our common purpose and our common hope for the future. Open to the Spirit of the Lord, we were led to formulate a Declaration of Solidarity with the poor and suffering of this world, our brothers and sisters, and we committed ourselves to make it known and to act upon it."
