S. Therezinha Joana Rasera, SDS was born in David Canabarro, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil on June 4, 1945. She made her first profession of vows in the Congregation of the Sisters of the Divine Savior (Salvatorian Sisters) on February 02, 1964. S. Therezinha started her apostolic ministry as an animator of catechesis and liturgical services in Imaculada Conceição Parish in Videira, Santa Catarina, Brazil. Later she prepared to be a formation directress, attending several specific courses built on anthropological, theological, biblical and spiritual foundations. She served as directress for the various levels of Initial formation for over 15 years. S. Therezinha served as Provincial Councilor and in that capacity was responsible for Vocation Ministry and Initial formation in the Province. She also served as Provincial leader for six years. For several years she ministered as a Guide and Counsellor for the spiritual exercises in her Province and on the intercongregational level. In her professional training S. Therezinha graduated in Liberal Arts (Latin Languages) from the University of Philosophy, Science and Languages in Palmas, Paraná, Brazil. For many years, she was a teacher in public schools and in schools owned by the Province. She graduated in Psychology from the Pontifical Catholic University of Paraná (PUC) and was practicing as a psychologist before she began her term of office as General Superior of the Congregation on February 24, 2002. S. Therezinha is full of enthusiasm and has dedicated herself over the years to studying and deepening her understanding of the Charism of Fr. Francis Mary of the Cross Jordan, Founder of her Congregation and of Blessed Mary of the Apostles, Co- Foundress. For many years, together with other Salvatorian Sisters, priests and laypersons, she participated in the foundation and development of the Salvatorian Family in Brazil. Currently, 1,250 Sisters, 1,169 Fathers and Brothers and 1,200 Lay Salvatorians (men and women) worldwide make up the Salvatorian Family. The three branches share in the Charism and ideal, the spirituality and mission given by the Founder. Members of the Salvatorian Family are spread to all the Continents and together are striving so that “All know God, the Only True God and Jesus Christ whom He has sent” (Jo 17,3) |
