UISG PLENARY MEETING

The first official act of the UISG was to assemble in Rome for a Plenary Meeting in 1967. Since then, there have been such meetings held every three years. The Plenary Meeting is a body for consultation, animation and reflection at an international level. It is open to all members. The objectives of Plenary Meetings are:

  • the study of themes of current interest to religious life at the international level;
  • consultation on questions related to the life and mission of the UISG in the Church and in the world.

Many important developments have risen from the work of members gathered in the Plenary. Some of the most notable are:

  • Fostering life through sharing, mutual interest and collaboration both on an international and intercultural level.
  • Better understanding of the problems in each country and continent through reports of members and constellations with regard to their region.
  • The continual attention given to Formation.
  • The foundation of the Jubilee Community in the year 2000.
  • Efforts to cope with world problems of justice and peace, the trafficking of women and, in general, the position of women.
