Rome, 25 March 2006
To: Superiors General Members of the UISG Subject: Plenary Meeting of the Union, 2007
Dear Sisters,
In a year from now we will be approaching the celebration of our Plenary Meeting. It will be held, as usual, in Rome at the Centro Internationale (Ergife Palace Hotel), Via Aurelia, 617/619 from the 6th to the 10th May 2007. I am very happy to make this announcement and I am already looking forward to your participation at such an important event in the life of the UISG.
As it is our Plenary, that is, each one’s Plenary, this is a wonderful opportunity to reflect together on a theme that matters to us. Because of this, we, as Executive, are inviting you into the process of choosing the theme. Looking at the major events of the Union since 2001, we see a progression, a common thread . Let us recall very briefly some of these major events.
The Plenary of 2001 “Many cultures, one heart. Women sent to be a living presence of the tenderness and mercy of God in our wounded world” led us to a strong commitment for the wounded women and children of the world. In 2004, Reconciliation was the key word “Women Disciples of Jesus Christ, bearers of Reconciliation in our World”. A few months later, November 2004, we celebrated the Congress on Consecrated Life that enkindled in us our “Passion for Christ, Passion for Humanity”, And the 2005 Assembly in Poland, Consecrated Women: Passionate for Christ Witnessing Justice, Reconciliation and Peace to the World, renewed our dynamism to continue journeying.
Today we ask ourselves:
Contemplating our world, hearing its cries, its needs, its thirst, its yearnings, what is the thread that we, women religious, leaders of our Congregations, are called to weave now and thus become God’s weavers, prophetic and mystic?
We know that the answer to this question will be the fruit of a prayerful reflection. It will unite us all in our desire to listen to the Spirit seeking together the thread that God and the world are calling us to weave.
The answers can be personal or collective. We would be very grateful if you could send them by e-mail (uisgseg@tin.it) to the General Secretary, Sr Victoria Gz de Castejón, rscj , before the 8th of May 2006. In our next Executive Meeting, we will discern the theme. It is important to know that we are not asking for a dissertation but just a sentence in which you can highlight the main word(s).
In September we will be in touch with you again and at that time we will communicate to you our theme and any other important information concerning the Plenary. Your answers will also help us, I have no doubt, to prepare the process of the Plenary. We thank you in advance for your collaboration.
Affectionately yours,
Sr Therezinha Rasera, SDS President
