LISTED BELOW ARE SOME OF THE RESPONSES SENT IN FOR THE PLENARY
|
|
|
|
|
In what way does the theme speak to you?
|
|
- I think that the theme meet the demands of times and all religious women life need a new spirituality
- The theme speaks for a spirituality relevant for our times. In these times of women and child trafficking, violence, displacement, cultural and economic domination this theme speaks of a spirituality of life and hope for all. It is sad to note that UISG could give a united forum for the world by building the lives of different continents through Regina Mundi is closed for financial reasons. The revival of the same could be helpful for the Sisters of the developing countries.
- I greatly appreciate the idea of “weaving together” the different threads. With this “weaving together” we can create our world as “a paradise of communion”, where compartmentalization creates much problems. But I did not understand fully the term “New Spirituality”. It seems to me that it is not a new spirituality. We are going back to the person of Jesus and to the gospels and should aim a Christian economy, where what is lost in Eden is regained and lead to a new heaven and a new earth (Rev 21,1)
- Issues relating to each of the "5 threads" (topics have already begun to touch our life today, some more profoundly than others. The idea of "weaving" all of these into the one fabric of our life makes sense and sounds like it could be an exciting project.
- The theme, with its five threads, is inclusive, touching on women, justice issues, the earth, the laity and the world religions. It is a challenge to look outwards, to listen, to love, to re-visit and to renew. Something that would weave the threads together would be a return to family values; so much has been lost because these are being neglected.
- We as religious need to be very clear of our identity, to know who we are, before we can weave. This is not a selfish, introverted exercise; our becoming clearer on our identity will in itself generate life and hope for all. In looking for a new understanding of our identity, we are at the same time searching for a new understanding of spirituality. One way that has been helpful is that put forward by Sandra Schneider in “Finding the Treasure”: she says that religious life is primarily about the God-quest. In this sense, growth in holiness, wholeness, is central to our lives.
- Is our spirituality affected by the HIV/AIDS pandemic? And by other evils of our time poverty, crime, landlessness? How is our presence felt? We know that people can approach us with their problems. We have a responsibility to be who we are. Perhaps religious are like the mosquito: this tiny, boneless creature can prevent a grown person from sleeping! Were we like mosquitos in our pursuance of setting up a desk to counteract trafficking? Maybe!
- Weaving a new spirituality continues the notion of networking beyond our own religious congregations and suggests a spirituality with an outward thrust. A spirituality which “generates hope and life for all” is inclusive of humanity and the earth. The fact that we are “weaving” also suggests a “work in progress.” It has an openness about it. The five threads we are called “to weave”: Women; Injustices in its different forms; the Earth and its sacredness; the Laity; and World’s religions’ call to the prophetical and the mystical are inclusive and yet expansive. There is an urgency about all the threads and each involves a political role which we are called upon to assume in today’s world. The theme and threads link with our Congregational theme at this time: Celebrating the Sacred: Compassion and Justice for Humanity and the Earth.
- As consecrated women and religious leaders we are challenged to participate in searching, with other consecrated and women and leaders, a spirituality that would respond better to the present situations of the world, bombarded with many complicated and serious crisis and needs. We start to think locally, in Thailand, what kind of spirituality we need and how we can live it in order to generates hope and life to all.
- The theme evokes the felt need of the modern world for a more stable society based on justice and peace, fraternity and harmony. The spirituality of each Charism has to become more transparent and legible, more open to the challenges of today’s world situation. The present day world, torn apart by the ravages of war, economic and atomic competition, greed for power, etc. is losing hope of a serene future. This theme challenges us to a new style of being (based on values of the Kingdom, believing and witnessing to compassionate love of God, welcoming every “foreigner” as brother and sister…); a new style of relating (in mutual appreciation and respect of each one’s gifts and limits, roles and responsibilities, uniting resources and efforts for the common good of all, open to the role of the laity, more sensitive to emergent needs of humanity…; a new style of living (in simplicity, solidarity, stewardship, empowering and healing one another, in search of the truth, to reveal the face of the Father, faithful to one’s vocation in the “here and now”; making apostolic options that offer personal accompaniment in an anonymous world…; a renewed rhythm of life (respecting God’s laws, not exploiting but nurturing the earth, not being enslaved by money, possessions, pleasures, courage to invent new ways of sharing the gifts of femininity, eg. Patience in the face of suffering…)..........................................................................................................................................................
- The theme is very current and global. I see in it all the different yearning of various religious reflected in the theme. I see the needs of our own part of the world to respond to the aspiration of women in the Church and society. There are very many injustices in different forms that we need to address as religious women.
-
- The theme speaks to me of individual and mutual giftedness, diversity, inclusiveness, togetherness, communal reading and responding to the signs of the times, creativity, initiative, colour fullness, skill.
- The theme of weaving suggests a putting together of fragments or parts to make something whole, new, and creative. Recently, someone shared the idea that the American counterpart to the weaving done in third and fourth world countries is “quilting”. Quilts are made from the fragments of material, often from the remnant, which are then pieced together into something colorful and new. Also, quilting is often a community endeavor where “quilters” come together to work on their project simultaneously. Consequently, this image od weaving conveys the ideas of creating something new and beautiful from the “saving remnant” as a community of believers, committed to the endeavor.
- It speaks of women religious having a finger on the pulse of the times our current realities in church and world call for a “refounding moment”. I believe that is the call of the theme.
- The word “challenged” speaks of being called forth; of being affirmed in the giftnnedness to meet the challenge; of being trusted and entrusted with the response. “Generates” has a clear ring of immense energy for new life, as in seeds being generated. “Hope and life” how essential in a culture that tends to be blind. “For all”. inclusion, participation.
- The theme speaks to me about interconnectedness and relationship as the challenged journey to be taken by all of us to heal the brokenness inside of us and surrounding us in this broken world. The main thread or weft intertwine through the five different threads is the new spirituality that bonds all together to weave the tapestry of the “Kindom” of God which bring hope and life to all.
- I love the idea of “weaving” towards a new spirituality. It gives the feel of movement and life rather than being static and still. It also gives the feel of an ebb and flow to the spiritual life. It also has the element of surprise and aliveness.
- If it is to be relevant, spirituality must be renewed. Weaving a new spirituality ahich generates hope and life means we are a living and listening part of the Church and world.
- The theme sounds very appropriate for our times. New spirituality needs of changing times. The Mission we fulfill must be carried out by becoming ICONS of God’s love for His people.
- Spirituality should be life-giving We need to re-think spirituality in the light of social realities Spirituality is both personal and communitarian It cannot be individualistic Spirituality should help in finding solutions to some of the present day issues and problems.
- . "New spirituality" - cannot just go along with the status quo the Church & documents (Vatican II) gave direction now renewal has taken place and we have looked at our Charisms etc. What is really needed today?
- The theme invites and challenges me to be open to the sacredness of all creation in all its diversity by a prophetic witness that is found in a contemplative attitude.
- Perhaps it is not so much a new spirituality as a dialogue across the spirituality of the world’s religions that respects the stance of all a dialogue that generates hope, that finds common ground while holding on to the richness of one’s own tradition. The theme speaks of right relationships: weaving together in different colours and textures; this weaving of the tapestry giving a particular focus and an enhanced beauty to the dialogue.
- The Theme aptly addresses the issues that we are challenged to face as religious in India and elsewhere today, very specially I am sure this theme will help us the SMI to live our charism and carry out our mission of evangelization and catechesis to the poor, to the marginalized, particularly women, girls and children in towns and villages. The theme enhances also the spirituality of the Little Way of Spiritual Childhood, that we follow that the compassionate Father, our Abba, is the provider and protector of all, giving hope and life for all, especially the most needy children of him.
- The theme speaks to me of a new Spirituality beyond religion and a Spirituality which is inclusive - a Spirituality of communion.
- The theme is inviting us. We feel the challenge to do some thing. It is a riche theme. We put the question: what does it mean ‘a new spirituality’? We have already the spirituality of our own Congregation. We are all in a process of deepening this spirituality through study of the sources of our Congregations. But our conclusion is this new spirituality it will not replace the spirituality of our Congregations it will enrich. It is a spirituality of wholeness, brotherhood and sisterhood with all mankind and the whole creation.
- The emphasis on generating hope and life is very positive and is inspired by the Paschal Mystery. Religious are threads across the various strands of life and as such can be more flexible and ‘light-weight’ than the more formal, heavy institutional Church. There is an urgency for us to discover new ways of expressing this age-old spirituality for our time with its stark reality of a culture of death. When we weave we pick up all the threads. A fragile strand alone may break but when woven with others will gain strength. When each Congregation brings its yarns of different cultures together we can put it on a common loom and weave a tapestry of a new spirituality. The theme challenges us to ask “what’s the more” that we could do in our fragile world. It speaks of women, without discrimination, bringing healing, wholeness, creativity and vitality to a new world waiting to be born.

How do these threads, when inter woven, create a new a spirituality?
|
|
|
- By leading all human being to have faithfulness in God.
- These threads will be leading all human being more faithfulness in there life by the Holy Spirit
- Life and hope for the five segments is chosen is very apt and if attended to with a sense of commitment by all the Religious. It is an urgent mission. However, each Congregation has its own pre-occupation and common focus is mission.
- Instead of new spirituality may I suggest to other names: Gospel Spirituality or Holistic Spirituality. When the threads are interwoven together, we are going back to the life of Messiah. Our isolated and half closed lives come directly under the reign of God as He prayed in Jn 17,11 “that they may be one”. Actually His was an opening to a “heroic exercise of agape” and an opening to liberty. The threads you mentioned in the paper are relevant themes.
- These five threads are key concerns and major issues that influence the quality of life and its consequences on humanity and the cosmos at large. The integration of these would lead to a new spirituality that promotes:
§ . a new culture of equality (between men and women)
§ . balance and harmony, with the feminine touch and sensitivity
§ . closeness to nature (value of humility; sacredness of earth and nature)
§ . mutual respect and dialogue (in the world, between religious)
§ . partnership/stewardship, co-responsibility, interdependence (religious/laity)
- The different threads touch us all. We can never exhaust all the dimensions of the theme. Our whole life as religious is reflected in the theme. If we live our daily life in awareness of our theme, it becomes a new spirituality, a new way of living aor religious life.
- The threads suggest an open approach, not one that is bound by clerical or hierarchical constraints. The focus on ‘generating hope and life for all’ suggests a passion for mission. As Jose Cristo Rey Garcia Paredes CMF says in his article in the recent UISG bulletin, “when spirituality tries to conceal the lack of missionary passion, it is worthless.” (p.5) and again: “the awareness of mission generates spirituality.” (p.16). The threads are not focused on a hierarchical model. They suggest unity, communion and interdependence, including interdependence with other religions. We can all learn from the mystics and wisdom writers of all religions. The threads are also more accessible to the non-churched. They will engage those on the edge and those in the liminal spaces. It is exciting and life-giving to recognize that multiple new patterns can be created by these threads.
- Through listening to each other and sharing in various levels, nationally and internationally, we would gather ideas and experiences and after deep prayerful reflections under the light of the Holy Spirit and the Word of God we hope to find the way to a new spirituality.
- It will make it a holistic spirituality It will be down to earth and human
§ It will create a living unity rather than dichotomies and ambiguities.
- All five threads say something about respect. Perhaps the call is to a spirituality of respect. It is the basis of all relationships. The theme calls to a respect for women, for the earth, the laity, the world religions. Respect is at the root of justice. Compassion is essential, but respect is even more basic; compassion without visible respect can seem patronizing. A spirituality of respect looks beyond narrow horizons.
- Respect is about appreciation, building up, nurturing. It is contagious, it generate life and uplifts. But we have to begin with respecting ourselves ourselves as women. In that way we will recreate the dignity of women, give hope to what it means to be a woman, especially in Africa today. We also have to know who we are in the church, to stand for it, even when it is painful. Is it respectful of ourselves to put up with, e.g. inadequate homilies?
- A spirituality of respect would be a sign of hope in the HIV/AIDS pandemic. There is so much stigma attached to the disease. To be respectful is to bring hope.
- When we weave the threads together we will know God lives in all areas of the earth; we will have a sense of God everywhere, drawing all religions together, creating a new dawn for everyone.
- Dualism and compartmentalism has influenced our life in ways less than helpful in living the Gospel ideals. A Spirituality that puts God in EVERYTHING and EVERYTHING in God is incarnational and therefore more in keeping with the core of Christian faith and the mission of Jesus in which we share.
- The threads with their different colours represent the various aspects of life. Religious women offer a spirituality whose threads are derived from the Gospel but coloured by such realities as eco-justice, inclusively, cultural diversity and the rich experience of women themselves. The two themes of hope and life need to be lived by every individual, expressed in our community and ministry and be prayed for unceasingly. These threads make a new spirituality as they run counter to our Western European 21st century culture that has so many anti-life elements. They also offer a fresh understanding of the meaning and experience of collaboration and interdependence. Perhaps woman is the ‘holder’ of the weave, even the shuttle thread. The threads when interwoven change relationships with God, with others and with creation.
- These threads when interwoven create a new relational and communal spirituality rooted in the sacred space of life, the womb of God. All together, lay and religious are called together to embraced in the love and compassion, letting the threads of life and hope flow through the brokenness, injustice, destruction, violence to human and creation to heal and re-create.
-
- They do so through attentive listening and docility to the Spirit and to one another, mutual appreciation and acceptance and support, sharing, wonder mystery, service, self-giving, involvement, concern, compassion.
- The United States constellation of women religious views this theme from a feminine perspective. We believe, and I concur, that the new spirituality of our age will add a feminine face to what has been a masculine reality. In a time of post feminism. Women have come of age and are unafraid to speak about the needs of our times and to critique the systems that oppress persons who are marginalized and oppressed, including women and children. The new, interwoven feminine threads, will create a more integrated global spirituality that will add comfort, compassion, and presence to the spirituality that has existed until now.
- They are the threads that move us to refunding and rethinking our lives and spirituality the call is to weave simplicity, pluralism, contemplation and products unique to culture.
- They create a spirituality of: -inclusion and participation active involvement with “the joys and sorrows” of humanity. -That focuses in the most vulnerable in our midst women, the earth, those oppressed by injustices. -That touches in to the immense hope that lay people hold for renewal. That recognises, the real energy his in relationships of love mystical and prophetic.
-
- The threads can be different colours, patterns and thickness. The idea of the threads reminds me that there is a multiplicity of ways of living out in different cultural ways we can enrich each other’s spirituality. If we joyfully accept the different ways of living out our individual and cultural spiritualities, there will certainly emerge a picture of new hope and life for Church and society.
- If we dream the dream and listen to the Spirit, we will assuredly be led to new responses. Contemplation and action will create a spirituality for today.
- The synthesis that needs to be developed in our spirituality has to be interwoven with the following threads: synthesis of prayer in action; prayer within activity; prayer with deed; our lives to be centred on God in prayer and service to those in need.
- · We looked at our own situations - appreciate and look at differences to combine the strength of all - really weave together a new spirituality - greater awareness of our way of life. Take the individual strands and make something stronger together. Dialogue among us is very important. The outcome of this dialogue must empower religious women to bring about a transformation. The challenge is how to speak about Jesus meaningfully in a secular world. There is a lack of faith formation, therefore a lack of understanding and desire to have definite answers. There is a desire to be more mystical and prophetic. There is an over-riding umbrella - care for the earth and all humankind - of which we are more aware. We cannot put new wine into old wineskins. The wisdom of the group becomes very powerful when we put the different strands together - the various colours of the strands blend together and the pattern becomes different - collaboration takes place!
- · These threads when interwoven create a new spirituality of looking beyond my parochial and comfort zone of spirituality. Once again, like the courageous religious women who have gone before me, I am called to look at the needs of God’s people from a faith perspective that is not always popular or accepted.
- · Perhaps there is a new spirituality of religious life emerging in bringing about justice to the world a new way of seeing ourselves now for the world. It is the approach, rather than what is done, that is new meeting a need at the edge, keeping God’s mission alive in a new context. At the hear of it all is right relationship with God, the created world and all people.
- · The weaving brings in a new spirituality in so far as, this spirituality addresses the existential demands of human life and it is a synthesis of an integrated approach to life. It addresses the neglected areas of the Created reality. It challenges all that prevents life in fullness. It is personal as well as global.
- · These treads, when interwoven, create this spirituality of wholeness, because it respects all. It brings together the reality of our live with the history of God with his people. There will be no domination. It is an inclusive spirituality. It brings together man and woman, laity and religious, there is care for justice, the earth is given as a heritage to take care of. The believers of all religions respect each other and try to work together for a New World where there is hope and live and an option for the poor and the little ones.
-
-
- These five very important and pertinent issues are at the centre of attention today in our mission. Spirituality is the way we express our relationship with God, in relationship to reality, in connectedness to the life situations in which we live.
- A spirituality that can bring about gender justice, a spirituality that can uphold dignity of women, the sacredness of earth our home here below, our people who need to be not only cared for and shepherded but also given opportunities to lead, to be accepted into the mainstream of our mission, and the ideas and concepts coming from all world religions, inviting us to the prophetical and mystical will certainly be a Christ-centered spirituality as Jesus himself has interwoven these into his own spirituality, his teachings, his mission. More than a brand new spirituality, it will be more a revising of the Gospel values and thus presenting it as a new spirituality, putting aside human-made distribution and divisions.

|
|
|
How will this spirituality generate hope and life for all?
|
|
- Many people will discover real presence at Holy Spirit in this age.
- All of us will discover the new way of life in God and have a new hope to be happy.
- If the issues proposed are given a collection expression by all the constellations it could be effective. However, I have attended only one constellation meeting about 6 years ago. If there are no meetings, common reflection new spirituality of and life will not be emerged and the results will be poor. Hence, efforts are to be made to have working constellations.
- The result of this Holistic spirituality is a complete transformation of life. It has got altruistic dimensions, radical relationship with God and man among themselves ans need to a harmonious spirituality (harmony with oneself, with God, with others and with the nature). This world of ours demand a more religious attitude (S. Q. only a spiritual man can survive in the future world). By being well aware of the situation and its different problems we should confront the crisis boldly, solve problems and answer questions with faith vision and a life of day to day living of the Gospel. Thus we spread hope and life for all.
- · This expression of spirituality is accessible and ‘touchable’ and is not exclusive to consecrated life. We need to think more broadly and work with in partnership with others. A sharing of spirituality from different perspectives can be mutually enriching for all. The threads out of which this spirituality will grow raise concerns about a range of major issues that affect all people in our world, and it also challenges those of us who can do something about them to act. It is imperative that the theme raises awareness and challenges us all to address the big issues of our time, rather than focus on internal congregation affairs, ‘there is dying if there is no passion for mission’. The spirituality has the potential to be accessible to all and must be shared with all. It has the potential to draw upon the learnings from science, art, theology, philosophy, and other religions to create a rich and varied tapestry with depth. The inclusivity of the theme offering ‘hope and life for all’ expands our consciousness to take in all of the community of life, not just humanity.
-
- · At least, what the Plenary, composed of representatives from all or nearly nations, decides we are in solidarity that gives strength to each and all to move forward in the same direction, God’s will, to generate hope and life for all.
- · A spirituality that is about being more comfortable with interconnectedness (with women, the earth, the laity, the world religions) is one of respect and justice. It is an understanding of spirituality that is not just about “saying our prayers”. A spirituality of respect, justice, interconnectedness in itself brings life and hope to all. It is a spirituality of harmony, singing one song in unison.
- The world religions call us to be prophets and mystics to see to the heart of things and to speak out. We have to allow ourselves to be in a sacred space, to let Christ be central. Tahis is how we draw people. Leaders are called to be an example in all of this.
- · However, in order to live such a spirituality we need to acknowledge what should be left behind. We need conversion and forgiveness in order to create something new.
- · Today's world (including people and creation) hungers for peace, reconciliation, respect, tolerance, basic rights and dignity for all. A LIVED INCARNATIONAL
SPIRITUALITY would focus on these deep needs and desires of people of our world today and so generate hope and life.
- · The act of weaving symbolizes the paschal mystery, dying and rising. It is an ongoing process which therefore implies continued life which brings about hope. There is always room for newness, starting afresh through originality, initiative, forgiveness and reconciliation. It can also be applied universally in different situations.
- · This spirituality will invite us to become women attentive and creative to discover with others, in our own context (basket) the different threads (possibilities, talents, resources human and material) to weave a cloth of compassion rich in colours by giving birth to new relations, by creating new human communities who will become the compassionate space of God among its people. This will help us to recognize the sacredness of life and respect the richness of each culture and religion. In a world divided by individualism, selfish economy, violence to human and nature, it is only by rediscovering the sacredness of life and being aware that there is only one reality it is the one of relations.
- ·
- · It is a “Kingdom” spirituality and will generate life through the power of prayer, our pro-active response in promoting it and witnessing to its values and by our having a contemplative approach. The threads that are interwoven are grounded in reality and woven with compassion, mercy and forgiveness. They are inspired by the human condition with its pain, sorrow, anguish and its searching, but also by its goodness and joy:
- By having as its focus the Risen Christ.
· By using modern means of communication to express our hope and our life at the frontiers.
- By a reflective and mission orientated Leadership.
- As Religious Congregations we are being called to restructure, reclaim our founding charisms, renew our vision and revive our Mission. Hence this spirituality when woven can generate hope and life for all.
- · A feminine spirituality will address the longings of the human heart, will be nurturing and comforting, present and persevering. The paternal spirituality of the Catholic Church, although rich in tradition, diminishes the role of the feminine spirituality, tied to the earth and to the ordinary people of the global community, will reach people heart to heart. This type of interaction is hope-filled and life-giving.
- · By our belief and witness.
- · It will be grounded in what is relevant to the people of our time. It will challenge us to more beyond a loss of hope -It will focus us on the need to be passionate in our search for God mystics. It will affirm our role as prophets.
- · This spirituality will generate hope and life for all as we recognize our common desire to love and serve a loving God through his people. This spirituality will help us to deepen our awareness that we are part of a bigger picture (a woven picture) where we recognize and accept that there is a place for many different strands of ways of our living out of the spiritual life. With this recognition we will relate differently to others which will bring about peace and harmony, new life and hope. We recognize we are not in this busniness of spirituality alone. This can be very challenging as we open our minds and hearts to the fact that there are so many different ways of responding to the God within us. This has to be exciting and encouraging for all of us in our mission of service.
-
-
- · Our response to needs will come from a contemplative place, which is where hope is born.
- · This spirituality has to red and respond to the needs of the changing times. It has to be the affective concerns of a heart constantly affected by events, present and future i, e, 9/11, Tsunami wave hitting humanity, ocean floor earthquake, bomb blasts, etc. people need to call back on God’s unfailing Word and count on His promises “Do not worry” (Mt 6:25, 31, 34), “Do not be afraid” (Mt 10:26, 28, 31). Spirituality having a healthy balance between prayer contemplation and action and holding up hope to people who are become lifeless and despair.
-
-
- · There is now a new maturity - a new moment whereby we give more attention to the earth which gives us hope and life for all. to continue to work on the trafficking issues which gives us a very global awareness and a desire to take action and to press for needed social programs which are being cut back in Canada. There is a call and a challenge to a new way of being - a greater and richer spirituality - one not linear but more encompassing. The challenge exists in spite of older members and lack of membership. A new fire is needed. One that will generate energy, passion, movement, process - all ongoing. Interdependence and interconnectedness - how do we act out of this? How do we work for justice? The Muslim reality in our world calls for leaders of faith communities to be a reconciling influence in our world. Spirituality is walking in the Spirit. Resurrection equals spirituality. We cannot rely on old ways - we must walk in new ways. We must be women of hope. There is so much despair. We must give a new nuance to what we do.
A Catholic spirituality - what does that mean? All spirituality is communal (not Jesus and I). Fear is very pervasive and actively being generated whereas generating hope is our call - our spirituality. The statement that comes forth from the 2007 Plenary Session should speak to the world (not couched in religious language). There should be simplicity of language. There should be a balance in this international statement which includes broader conversation with who have not therefore influenced by many voices. The minor and major issues should be kept in mind all the time. We suggest that the new spirituality have continuity with trafficking and the theme of reconciliation.
-
-
- This spirituality will generate hope and life for all because it respects the sacredness of creation in all of its wealth of diversity.
- · Dialogue around common concerns will create community, and generate networks that engender new life and hope. This dialogue will not be only as groups of religious we are in this mission together, in partnership with laity, with those of other faiths …Being seen to be active in how we are bringing about the mission of God.
- · In this Spirituality the basic human dignity of all beings is upheld. It is a movement towards the Creation of a ‘New Age’. “He shall be their God and they shall be His people.”(Rev.21:3) It generates hope in so far as it offers ‘Life in Abundance’
- · It only can happen when there are people who want to work on it. Who will take serious this challenge, people who are aware that nobody can do it alone. We need each other. We need to start. We need openness, welcoming, goodwill, respect. As religious women we need in our Congregations an holistic, inclusive formation so the young women can grow in a spiritually that has a world wide vision and is rooted in a good mystical spirit.

- - I chose this Scripture passage from Acts : 16. It reminded me of the different threads being woven into a new picture. Just as each thread brings a whole new perspective to the total picture, so Paul and Timothy brought a whole new perspective into the life of Lydia. It seems Lydia « was a devout women » and had her own spiritual perspective on lie. But Paul and Timothy wave a new perspective on life the Christ perspective. Because Lydia was open not only to the Lord, but to a whole new way of being and living she became as a thread in the neww picture developing in her town. Lydia did not keep her new perspective on life just for her own personal development she opened her heart and her home in fine hospitality, sharing the hope and new life she had received from her new approach to spirituality and living. Paul and Timothy obviously recognized the openess of Lydia and responded to be compeling invitation.
